Bridges Chief Visits SASEC Highway Project in Tangail and Sirajganj, Bangladesh

Mr. Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Bridges Division secretary and Bangladesh Bridge Authority executive director visited Tangail and Sirajganj districts to inspect construction progress on the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Road Connection Project-2, which is upgrading the Elenga-Hatikumrul-Rangpur highway to four lanes. Mr. Rouf also visited the Jamuna Bridge, which is undergoing regular maintenance work.

SASEC Road Project Reaches 25% Completion

Road work is underway to upgrade Nepal’s East-West Highway to meet Asian Highway standards. The project is funded by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Nepal and is being undertaken as part of the SASEC partnership. The Nepal Ministry for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development is supervising construction, which has now reached 25% completion.

Gorai Flyover along SASEC Highway in Bangladesh Opened in Time for Eid al-Fitr Holiday

The Gorai flyover in Mirzapur upazila, Tangail, was opened to traffic on April 25, 2022. "The flyover will ensure smooth movement of vehicles," said Mr. Noor-e-Alam, additional director of South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC)-1 project, Bangladesh Roads and Highways Department.

Bangladesh Signs Intelligent Transport System Project under SASEC

The Bangladesh Roads and Highways Department signed an $18 million contract with NDE Ltd. and FiberHome Telecommunication Technologies Co. Ltd. for Bangladesh's first dedicated intelligent transport system (ITS) project. The project, under the SASEC Road Connectivity Project 2 (Package 15), is financed by the Asian Development Bank.

Contractor Set to Build SASEC Elenga–Rangpur Highway in Bangladesh

The Roads and Highways Department of Bangladesh has awarded to contractor Abdul Momen Ltd., also known as AML Construction, the project to widen the highway linking the town of Elenga and the city of Rangpur in northeast Dhaka in Bangladesh.
