ICP Construction in Nepalgunj Commences

Construction of the integrated check post (ICP) at Nepalgunj (Nepal) has commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony held on 12 November 2020. The Government of India is building ICPs with customs and immigration facilities under one roof on the Indo-Nepal border to systematize the movement of cross-border cargo. Mr. Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Government of India, and Mr. Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Minister of Urban Development of the Government of Nepal, witnessed the ceremony online.
The ICP at Nepalgunj will have export and import cargo handling facilities. It will offer warehousing, including refrigerated cargo facilities, medical, plant, and animal quarantine areas, as well as amenities for drivers and passengers, CCTV and other security systems, 24/7 power backup, and wastewater treatment facilities.
The ICP aims to help save time, reduce inconvenience to visitors, and lower overall transaction costs in cross-border trade and commerce.
Rajdeep Buildcon Pvt Ltd, under the supervision of RITES International Ltd, an undertaking of the Government of India, will implement the project. The tendered cost of the project is INR 1.47 billion (around $19.9 million). It will be constructed for two years.
