SAARC Collaboration Urged to Attract Foreign Direct Investment

19 May 2017

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCSL) organized a press briefing to launch the SAARC Investment Forum and Trade Fair scheduled for 6-9 September 2017 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

During the briefing, the Minister of Industry and Commerce for Sri Lanka, Mr. Rishad Bathiudeen, urged collaboration among SAARC member countries to encourage inflows of foreign direct investment. The Minister noted that more investments can create better employment in South Asia, retaining skills within the region, and helping stop the brain drain.

The SAARC Investment Forum and Trade Fair will unveil investment opportunities in the region to encourage cross-border investments from within and outside the region, and create a common platform for SAARC businesses to showcase their products and services.

Minister Bathiudeen highlighted that the scheduled events will help expand the region's trade and investment, and provide an opportunity to create closer relations among SAARC members.
