The Adani Group of India and the Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) of Bhutan have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop 5,000 MW of hydropower and pumped storage projects in Bhutan. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Mr. Gem Tshering, Minister for Energy and Natural Resources of the Government of Bhutan, and other senior dignitaries on 8 May 2025 in Thimphu, Bhutan.

The partnership is closely aligned with Bhutan’s Renewable Energy Roadmap, which targets 20,000 MW of new capacity by 2040 ,and encourages strategic alliances to attract investment and innovation. With the support of the Governments of Bhutan and India, the collaboration underlines a shared vision for sustainable growth, economic integration, and the strengthening of Bhutan’s role in the regional energy trade.
