Bangladesh and Nepal to Undertake Joint Hydropower Investments

The Governments of Bangladesh and Nepal have agreed to undertake joint investments in hydropower plants in Nepal, to generate electricity, which includes energy exports to Bangladesh.
Mr. Tofail Ahmed, Bangladesh Commerce Minister, and Mr. Romi Gauchan Thakali, Nepal Commerce Minister, signed an agreement on 16 October 2016 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to set up two hydropower plants capable of generating 1,500 megawatts, with cooperation from India.
Mr. Ahmed expressed hope of strengthening economic ties between Bangladesh and Nepal. He also discussed the possibility of establishing rail connections between the two countries by 2018.
