Tata Power Company Ltd and the Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd (DGPC), a subsidiary of Bhutan's Druk Holding and Investments Ltd, will jointly develop Bhutan’s clean energy capacity. This collaboration is supported by the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Government of India to enhance Bhutan's energy security and diversify the country’s energy portfolio, promoting regional integration.

Tata Power Company and DGPC’s partnership aims to develop at least 5,000 MW of clean energy, aligning with Bhutan's ambitious goal of achieving 25,000 MW of generation capacity by 2040. The partnership includes a phased development of 4,500 MW of hydropower projects, including the following hydropower projects:

  • 1,125 MW Dorjilung HEP
  • 740 MW Gongri Reservoir
  • 1,800 MW Jeri Pumped Storage
  • 364 MW Chamkharchhu IV

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a Tata Power subsidiary, will also undertake 500 MW of solar energy projects.

Tata Power and DGPC have been collaborating since 2008, with their first successful venture being the 126 MW Dagachhu Hydropower Plant, Bhutan's first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in hydropower. Tata Power also operates a 1,200 km Tala transmission line, transmitting clean power from Bhutan to India.
