Petrapole ICP to Build a Second Cargo Gate

9 May 2023

Mr. Amit Shah, Home Minister of the Government of India, laid the foundation stone for the second cargo gate at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) of Petrapole – the largest land port in South Asia – on 9 May 2023. This will enhance border connectivity in the busy ICP where around 30% of land-based trade between Bangladesh and India take place.

This will provide a major boost to the modernization of infrastructure along the international border between India and Bangladesh.

In his speech, Mr. Shah reaffirmed the importance of the development of land ports in fulfilling India’s dream of becoming a $5 trillion economy. The Land Ports Authority of India has moved forward in this direction and taken several initiatives in the last five years. He also underscored the value of strengthening the India-Bangladesh bilateral relationship and putting in place the requisite modern infrastructure facilitating greater people-to-people connectivity.
