The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is set to strengthen its partnership with India and support development priorities for inclusive growth, according ADB Vice-President Shixin Chen. During a visit to India on 5-9 September 2022, Mr. Chen affirmed ADB's support to the government's development initiatives targeting fast, green, and inclusive post-coronavirus (COVID-19) economic recovery.

Mr. Chen was in India to meet with Department of Economic Affairs Secretary and ADB Alternate Governor Ajay Seth. He also held discussions with ministry secretaries for road transport and highway; new and renewable energy; environment, forest, and climate change; and Director General of the Energy and Resources Institute; as well as development partners and private sector representatives.

ADB aims to revive economic activity and support jobs and livelihoods affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. ADB will strengthen investments in health and education; micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, and support India projects in infrastructure, logistics, economic corridor development, and green growth. ADB supports climate actions in India, focusing on decarbonization of transport, energy transition, climate change adaptation, air quality and water resources improvements, and disaster risk management.

ADB incorporates gender equality and social inclusion into the design of ADB-funded projects, and enhances regional cooperation through the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation platform, said Mr. Chen.
