ADB VP Meets Bangladesh PM, Visits SASEC Chattogram–Cox's Bazar Railway Project

Asian Development Bank (ADB) Vice-President Shixin Chen visited ADB-assisted projects during a six-day visit to Bangladesh. Mr. Chen visited South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Chattogram–Cox's Bazar Railway Project, Second Chattogram Hill Tracts Rural Development Project, Power System Efficiency Improvement Project, and Power System Expansion and Efficiency Improvement Investment Program. He also interacted with project beneficiaries.

Mr. Chen met with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 9 May 2022 in Dhaka and reaffirmed ADB's commitment to supporting rapid recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Chen reaffirmed ADB's commitment to inclusive, resilient, and green development in Bangladesh and said ADB will prioritize assistance for least developed country graduation, climate change, and sustainable development goals to help the country achieve its aspiration of becoming an upper middle-income country by 2031 and a high-income country by 2041.

Mr. Chen also held discussions on energy, railway development, health, and education in meetings with Finance Minister and ADB Governor A H M Mustafa Kamal, Planning Minister M A Mannan, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon, and other senior officials, development partners, and representatives from the private sector
