Bangladesh and Nepal Preferential Trade Agreement in Final Stage

The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Nepal Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) signed a memorandum of cooperation on 14 December 2021. Mr. Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Commerce Secretary of the Government of Bangladesh, spoke as the chief guest. In his remarks, he noted that the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Bangladesh and Nepal is in the final stage
Mr. Tapan also remarked on the various commonalities between Bangladesh and Nepal. Both countries are set to graduate from the LDC category in 2026. He urged Nepali businessmen to maximize opportunities in Bangladesh, which is a huge market with a large consumer base in the fast-moving consumer goods sector.
Mr. Rizwan Rahman, DCCI President, promoted investment in Bangaldesh’s agro-processing, tourism, financial sectors and SEZs. He said that Nepali businessmen can explore economic opportunities under the Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) connectivity.
Mr. Vishnu Kumar, CNI President, remarked that agriculture, tourism, energy, education and the IT sector are some of the potential sectors where entrepreneurs of both countries can benefit. He also shared that Nepal is moving from a trading led economy to a manufacturing-based economy.
