Indian Envoy Reviews Bilateral Trade and Connectivity with Bangladesh Ministers

Ms. Riva Ganguly Das, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call to several ministers of the Government of India in April 2019 to discuss matters of mutual interest, including trade, energy, and transport connectivity.

She called on Mr. AK Abdul Momen, Foreign Minister of the Government of Bangladesh on 3 April 2019. Mr. Momen welcomed her appointment as High Commissioner, and lauded the historic ties between Bangladesh and India. Mr. Momen noted meeting his counterpart, Ms. Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister of the Government of India, and expressed hope about further deepening the already exemplary relations enjoyed by the two countries.

Ms. Das also called on Mr. Salman F. Rahman, Private Industries and Investment Adviser to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 9 April 2019. They discussed bilateral trade and commerce, including ways to increase India's investment in Bangladesh.

On 30 April 2019, Ms. Das met Mr. Md Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Government of India. Mr. Alam expressed appreciation for efforts of the Government of India to increase connectivity between the two countries through transport projects, such as railways and waterways. They also took note of matters concerning electricity trade between Bangladesh and India. Mr. Alam ensured Ms. Das of his full support and cooperation during her tenure as High Commissioner.

Ms. Das was appointed as High Commissioner to Bangladesh in December 2018.
