SASEC Mini Dry Port Project to Help Ease Traffic in Phuentsholing, Bhutan

Two of three South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) project components are seeing progress in Bhutan. A planned mini dry port project aims to provide cargo and other commercial vehicles a route that avoids the main roads in the border town of Phuentsholing, where motorists currently suffer heavy traffic.
Another component of the project expected to ease traffic congestion is a 2.66-kilometer (km) bypass to connect Bau Bazaar in Jaigon and the Phuentsholing-Thimphu highway. The bypass will be routed through the planned mini dry port.
Phuentsholing Thromde has submitted a report on the planned bypass to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which has committed $12.95 million for the project.
