India and Nepal Sign MoU to Boost Tourism Cooperation

25 May 2025

In a landmark move to enhance tourism cooperation between India and Nepal, the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) and the Nepal Association of Tour & Travel Agents (NATTA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the Buddhist International Travel Mart (BITM 2025) in Kathmandu. The agreement aims to promote dynamic partnership to increase two-way tourism flows between India and Nepal. Mr. Ravi Gosain, President of IATO, and Mr. Kumar Mani Thapaliya, President of NATTA, signed the agreement, witnessed by Mr. Badri Prasad Pandey, Minister of Tourism of the Government of Nepal, and Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO, Nepal Tourism Board.

Key areas of collaboration will include joint marketing campaigns, information sharing on tourism trends and policy updates, and coordinated participation in major trade shows and conventions. The MoU also emphasizes B2B networking, shared research, and the promotion of pilgrimage and heritage circuits, reflecting both countries’ commitment to leveraging their cultural and natural assets.

By fostering closer ties among tour operators, India and Nepal aim to offer a seamless and enriched experience for international visitors, particularly those interested in Buddhist, cultural, and adventure tourism. The partnership highlights the broader potential of subregional cooperation to drive sustainable growth and connectivity across the region.
