India Prime Minister Modi Inaugurates Third Land Port in Tripura, India

9 March 2024

India Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the third Land Port at Sabroom, Tripura, where he emphasized the importance of developing India’s northeastern region.

The inauguration of the land port is part of the government's Act East Policy, which aims to transform the region into a HIRA (Highway, Internet, Roadways, and Airways) model. The modern land port in Sabroom is expected to boost trade and commerce with Southeast Asian countries via the Chattogram (Chittagong) port in Bangladesh.

The Sabroom Land Port is considered the largest in the region, enhancing connectivity and trade opportunities.

Alongside the land port, the Prime Minister also inaugurated 11 projects in Tripura, which include Rural Functional Household Tap Connections, school buildings, and other infrastructure projects. Additionally, he laid the foundation for 12 new projects, including improvements to highways and roads.
