Bangladesh ECNEC Approves the SASEC Integrated Trade Facilitation Sector Development Program

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Integrated Trade Facilitation Sector Development Project: Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA) Part with Tk 2.17 billion (around $23.47 million) and SASEC Integrated Trade Facilitation Sector Development Project with Tk 3.13 billion (around $33.85 million). The meeting was presided by Bangladesh Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Sheikh Hasina.

The SASEC Integrated Trade Facilitation Sector Development Program will upgrade Bangladesh’s trade facilitation infrastructure by building integrated land customs stations and land ports; installing facilities and equipment for customs clearance and cargo transshipment operations; and launching into operations policy reforms at the Akhaura, Sonamasjid, and Tamabil border crossing points. Central customs facilities will also be designed for Dhaka, and integrated trade facilities at Bibirbazar, Birol, Darshana, Sheora, Sonahat, and Teknaf border crossing points.
