Subregional Transport Facilitation Project

This technical assistance assisted the Government in improving transport efficiencies by preparing a project aiming to (i) strengthen the road connectivity; (ii) promote domestic and international trade by improving crossing border facilities; and (iii) conduct capacity building. This helped prepare a project suitable for ADB financing to (i) improve the sub-regional route from Birganj to Hetauda along the Tribhuvan Highway and other border crossings to national highways; (ii) enhance crossing border facilities to improve trade flows with India, Bhutan, Bangladesh and third countries. The Project will improve the sub-region, including improvement of transport connections to Kokata and Haldia Port, and improve the domestic transport system in Nepal. These transport improvements will support growth in sub-regional trade and investment, and thereby contribute to economic growth and poverty reduction.
