Myanmar Launches Authorized Economic Operators Program

23 December 2017

Myanmar Customs Department initiated a new program on Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) and met with import and export companies, freight forwarders, and government departments to help raise public awareness for the program. The meeting was held on 22 December 2016 at the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), Yangon, Myanmar, in support of government efforts to enhance Customs administration.

The new AEO program will allow access to trade facilitation benefits, including quicker Customs processing, to trade operators with a record of Customs compliance and good commercial records management systems.

Myanmar Customs aims to enhance the security of the global supply chain and facilitate trade and is initiating its AEO program in line with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Trade in Goods Agreement, the World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement, and World Customs Organization international standards.
