30 January 2017

The second meeting of the Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism, held on 30 January 2017 in Kathmandu, Nepal, reviewed progress of India-funded economic and development projects in Nepal, and agreed to expedite implementation of these projects for timely completion. The meeting was led by Mr. Shanker Das Bairagi, Foreign Secretary, Nepal, and Mr. Ranjit Rae, Indian Ambassador to Nepal.

Projects discussed included cross-border railways, integrated check posts, cross-border transmission lines, Arun III and Upper Karnali hydropower projects, the Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project, postal roads, line of credit projects, and reconstruction projects.

The Government of India also provided $2.49 million in support of the postal highway construction in Nepal. This postal highway cuts across the entire width of Nepal, from Bhadrapur in the east to Dudhaura in the west, across the Terai region near the Indo-Nepal border, aiding transportation and facilitating postal services. The check was issued to Nepal's Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Ramesh Lekhak.
