4th Regional Customs Enforcement Meeting

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) under the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) organized the 4th Regional Customs Enforcement Meeting (RCEM) on 10 December 2016 at Vigyan Bhawan Annexe, New Delhi, as part of its Founding Day celebrations. The Heads of Customs Enforcement from Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Mauritius and Maldives were invited to participate in the said Meeting. Two delegates each from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and one delegate each from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Mauritius and Maldives attended the RCEM along with senior officers of CBEC.

The conference was inaugurated by Shri Najib Shah, Chairman, CBEC and chaired by Shri Jayant Misra, Director General, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.

The participants discussed issues of mutual concern, shared their experiences in combating smuggling and evasion of duties. They discussed the modus operandi in smuggling of Gold, Fake Indian Currency Notes, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, antiques, foreign currency etc. Noting the need to share information and activating channels of co-ordination and information, the participants agreed for the need of sharing trade data among the countries and to achieve this objective, it was agreed to form a Joint Working Group to work out the modalities.

The conference concluded with valedictory address of Shri Sanotsh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State for Finance, Government of India.
