The Government of China pledged to contribute $500,000 to World Trade Organization (WTO) Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Accessions Program or the China Program. This will enable LDCs to better integrate into the global economy by strengthening their participation in WTO activities and helping members accede to the WTO. 

The China Program financially supports WTO accession internships, accessions round table meetings, LDCs’ participation in WTO meetings and workshops, including South-South dialogue on LDCs and development.

WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo welcomes the new donation while China’s Ambassador Jianhua Yu looks forward to successful implementation of the renewed Program with its extended forms of cooperation. China consistently supported WTO’s Aid for Trade initiative and provided trade-related technical assistance to LDCs over the past three years.

The South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Subregional Trade Facilitation Program implements the Asian Development Bank regional cooperation strategy in South Asia and aims to increase intra-regional trade among Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal. Among the SASEC countries, Bangladesh and Nepal are WTO LDC members while Bhutan holds Observer status.
