Tata Power and Druk Green Power Corporation Expands Cooperation with Nyera Amari Hydropower Project
8 May 2026
Tata Power and Bhutan's Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) have expanded their clean energy partnership by adding the 404 MW Nyera Amari I & II Integrated Hydropower Project, bringing their total identified hydropower capacity to 5,033 MW. The two companies signed an amendment to their existing MoU, with the portfolio now spanning five major projects: Khorlochhu (600 MW), Dorjilung (1,125 MW), Gongri Reservoir with Jeri Pumped Storage (2,540 MW), Chamkharchhu IV (364 MW), and the newly added Nyera Amari I & II. Work has already begun on Khorlochhu and Dorjilung, which together account for about 35% of the total portfolio.
The collaboration supports Bhutan's long-term goal of reaching 25,000 MW of total power generation capacity by 2040, aimed at bolstering energy security and regional integration. Beyond hydropower, the two companies also plan to jointly develop 500 MW of solar photovoltaic projects in Bhutan. Tata Power CEO Praveer Sinha noted that the partnership would also benefit India by providing reliable, clean power during peak demand periods, particularly in summer months.
