India, Maldives Negotiating Investment Treaty to Strengthen Economic Ties -India Foreign Secretary

India and Maldives are negotiating an investment treaty to strengthen economic ties, according to Mr. Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary of the Government of India. Mr. Misri was speaking at a press briefing ahead of India Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Maldives.

India is one of Maldives's biggest trade partners, according to Mr. Misri, with bilateral trade approaching $500 million.

Mr. Misri also noted India's development partnership with Maldives, highlighting India’s support for the Greater Male Connectivity Project connecting Maldives's four islands.
