Installed Electricity capacity for Nepal Reaches 3,878 MW

Nepal's installed electricity capacity has reached 3,878 megawatts (MW), according to an announcement by Mr. Deepak Khadka, Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation of the Government of Nepal, during a press conference on 17 July 2025. The milestone was achieved with the addition of 631 MW of new electricity capacity added to the national grid in the past year.

Nepal is currently exporting 800 MW of electricity daily to Bangladesh and India. Earlier this year, Nepal approved its Energy Development Roadmap 2081. The roadmap sets a target of 28,500 MW of electricity production by 2035, including 15,000 MW to be exported to Bangladesh and India.

Mr. Khadka noted progress in infrastructure projects, such as the installation of 397 kilowatts (kW) of small hydropower projects and 603 kW of solar power systems.
