Bangladesh Launches Fully Automated Trade Clearance System

1 July 2025

The Government of Bangladesh has launched a fully automated trade clearance system, making the submission and issuance of Certificates, Licenses, and Permits (CLPs) for import and export mandatory through the Bangladesh Single Window (BSW) platform starting 1 July  2025. This digital platform, developed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR), allows businesses to apply for and receive all necessary documents from 19 major government agencies online, eliminating the need for manual processing. The move is expected to significantly reduce both the time and cost associated with customs clearance, with nearly 86% of CLPs now being processed in under an hour and almost 95% within a day.

The BSW system aims to modernize Bangladesh’s trade environment by increasing transparency, reducing bureaucratic hurdles, and fostering greater trust among local and foreign investors. Registration on the platform requires a Business Identification Number (BIN). No manually issued CLPs will be accepted at customs points from the new financial year.

As of 30 June 2025, over 389,000 CLPs had already been issued automatically during the system’s pre-launch phase. The NBR has called on all stakeholders to support the effective implementation of the BSW, emphasizing its role in streamlining trade operations and boosting investment.
