Adani Group and DGPC Forge Major Hydropower Partnership in Bhutan

8 May 2025

The Adani Group of India and the Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) of Bhutan have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop 5,000 MW of hydropower and pumped storage projects in Bhutan. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Mr. Gem Tshering, Minister for Energy and Natural Resources of the Government of Bhutan, and other senior dignitaries on 8 May 2025 in Thimphu, Bhutan.

This collaboration leverages Bhutan’s vast hydropower potential, supporting domestic energy needs and the export of reliable green energy to India. It will further advance Bhutan’s clean energy ambitions while deepening regional energy cooperation.

The partnership is closely aligned with Bhutan’s Renewable Energy Roadmap, which targets 20,000 MW of new capacity by 2040 ,and encourages strategic alliances to attract investment and innovation. With the support of the Governments of Bhutan and India, the collaboration underlines a shared vision for sustainable growth, economic integration, and the strengthening of Bhutan’s role in the regional energy trade.
