BIMSTEC a Vital Bridge between South Asia and Southeast Asia -India PM

"BIMSTEC serves as a vital bridge between South and Southeast Asia, and is emerging as a powerful platform for advancing regional connectivity, cooperation, and shared prosperity," said India Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech at the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 4 April 2025. The summit centered on the theme "Prosperous, Resilient, and Open BIMSTEC," and discussed fostering collaboration among BIMSTEC member countries to address developmental challenges.

Prime Minister Modi announced initiatives that aim to build a prosperous, secure, and inclusive Bay of Bengal region. He also highlighted the start of operations of the BIMSTEC Energy Centre in Bengaluru. The center aims to promote energy cooperation in the BIMSTEC region.

Among the outcomes of the summit was the adoption of the Declaration of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, the adoption of the BIMSTEC Bangkok Vision 2030, the signing of the Agreement on Maritime Transport Cooperation, and the adoption of Rules of Procedure for the BIMSTEC Mechanisms.
