ADB Loan Project to Support Tourism in Himachal Pradesh, India

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan worth $162 million to support sustainable and inclusive tourism development in Himachal Pradesh, India. The Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism Development Project in Himachal Pradesh project will promote heritage and cultural centers in the Mandi and Hamirpur districts, restore the Naggar Castle in Kullu, and construct modern tourist facilities as well as a convention center and in Kangra. The project will also improve wayside amenities in Kullu, Hamirpur, and Kangra.

The project will incorporate solar lighting and electric vehicles for elderly, women, children, and persons with disabilities. The project will also build wellness centers, tourist recreation facilities, adventure sports center and water park complex, and biking trails, which will provide job opportunities to local communities.

According to Mr. Vivek Vishal, senior project officer, ADB, "This project will enhance the state's tourism potential by upgrading and preserving heritage and cultural sites, establishing new facilities, and strengthening the tourism sector management."
