Maldives Foreign Affairs Minister Visits India

4 January 2025

Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, conducted an official visit to India on 2-4 January 2025, following the recent State Visit of Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu in October 2024. During bilateral discussions with Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India, both sides reviewed progress on understandings reached during President Muizzu's visit and addressed issues requiring further attention. Dr. Jaishankar reaffirmed India's commitment to its ties with Maldives under the 'Neighborhood First' policy and Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) Vision. Dr. Khaleel expressed appreciation for India's timely emergency financial assistance to Maldives.

The two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to realize the Joint Vision for India-Maldives Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership. The Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of High Impact Community Development Projects under Phase-III in Maldives through Indian grant assistance was signed during the visit.

This high-level engagement provided an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral ties for the mutual benefit of both countries.
