Bhutan, India Discuss Implementation of India’s Support for Bhutan’s 13th Five Year Plan

20 July 2024

Mr. Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary of the Government of India to Bhutan, undertook an official visit to Bhutan in July 2024. His visit focused on various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including development partnership, energy, trade and investment, connectivity, and trade infrastructure. During the Third India-Bhutan Development Cooperation Talks, both countries discussed the implementation of India's development support of Nu. 100 billion (INR 10,000 Crores) for Bhutan's 13th Five Year Plan. This commitment underscores the strong partnership and mutual trust between the two nations.

A key highlight of the talks was the approval of 61 projects amounting to Nu. 49.58 billion (INR 4,958 Crores), covering a wide range of sectors such as connectivity, infrastructure, energy, and digital economy. These projects align with the vision of His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, and the priorities of the Government of Bhutan. The discussions also touched upon enhancing trade and investment opportunities, improving connectivity and trade infrastructure, and strengthening energy cooperation.
