Maldives, Sri Lanka Look to Deepen Economic Ties

Mr. Moosa Zameer, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Maldives, met with Sri Lanka Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 6 June 2024, to discuss strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries. They exchanged views on expanding ties in areas including trade and investment. 

Mr. Zameer expressed Maldives' keen interest in deepening relations with Sri Lanka.  Prime Minister Gunawardena stressed the need to enhance tourism and renewable energy cooperation. He pledged full cooperation with Maldives.  

The meeting also discussed new bilateral agreements being discussed by the two countries, including the Investment Protection Treaty and Double Tax Avoidance Agreement.
