Bangladesh, Bhutan Vow to Further Strengthen Bilateral Trade

The 9th Commerce Secretary Level Meeting (CSLM) between Bhutan and Bangladesh was held on 24-25 April 2024, in Thimphu, Bhutan. The meeting reviewed the progress and challenges in trade and economic cooperation since the last CSLM in 2022.  

 

Key Outcomes of the 9th CSLM 

  • Both countries committed to strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation in the face of pandemic-related challenges. 
  • The meeting discussed various areas of cooperation, including tourism, trade facilitation, investments, customs, standards, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and agriculture. 
  • Both sides agreed to review and consider adding more products to their Preferential Trade Agreement to boost overall trade. 

In 2023, Bangladesh was Bhutan's third-largest trading partner, with overall bilateral trade reaching Nu. 5.8 billion. Bhutan exported goods worth Nu. 5.02 billion and imported goods worth Nu. 798 million from Bangladesh.
