India, Nepal Hold Discussions to Bolster Trade Ties

The India-Nepal Inter-Governmental Sub-Committee (IGSC) on Trade, Transit, and Cooperation to Combat Unauthorized Trade met on 12–13 January 2024 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The meeting highlighted the commitment by the two countries to bolster trade and investment ties to achieve the shared vision of prosperous bilateral trade. 

This meeting held comprehensive discussions on several matters of mutual interest, including 

market access for pharmaceuticals and Ayurvedic products, proposed amendments to existing agreements, strategies for enhancing investment, harmonization of standards, and synchronized development of trade infrastructure. This included a review of bilateral initiatives to promote seamless cross-border connectivity, such as construction of new Integrated Check Posts and railway links. The meeting also reviewed the Treaty of Transit and the Treaty of Trade. 

Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the need to establish food laboratories at key cross-border trading points to ease agricultural trade.
