Bangladesh Foreign Minister Advocates for MoU Completion with Bhutan on Hydropower, Urges Reconsidering BBIN Participation

Mr. Hasan Mahmud, Foreign Minister of the Government of Bangladesh, has emphasized the importance of finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bhutan for the import of hydropower during a meeting with Mr. Rinchen Kuentsyl, Bhutan’s Ambassador to Bangladesh. The discussions also discussed the possibility of establishing a trilateral energy trade involving Bangladesh, India, and Bhutan, showcasing a regional approach to energy security and sustainability. 

Mr. Mahmud further explored avenues for collaboration across various sectors, including commerce, connectivity, education, agriculture, health, and fostering people-to-people contacts. He also encouraged Bhutan to reconsider its participation in the BBIN (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal) initiative, which aims to further expand subregional connectivity and cooperation. Additionally, the proposal to explore the import of vehicles manufactured by 'Pragati Industries' in Bangladesh was proposed, indicating potential trade expansions.
