Sabroom ICP to Elevate India-Bangladesh Trade Relations

24 February 2024

The new Integrated Checkpost (ICP) at Sabroom in Tripura, India, and its counterpart in Ramgarh Upazila, Bandarban, Bangladesh, is set to usher in a transformative phase in the trade dynamics between India and Bangladesh.

The Sabroom ICP, sprawling over 49 acres, is designed to be a comprehensive terminal and logistics hub that will facilitate the smooth transit of goods and passengers across the border. It integrates essential services such as customs, immigration, container transshipment, and warehousing into a single facility, thereby optimizing trade and travel procedures.

This new land port is strategically positioned to leverage India's access to the Chattogram (Chittagong) port, which is expected to bolster Sabroom's role as a primary conduit for the movement of goods in India's northeastern region. Moreover, its proximity to the Matarbari deep-sea port, which is about 100 kilometers away and slated to be operational in three years, is likely to further amplify the flow of traffic through Sabroom.

The establishment of the Sabroom ICP is a testament to the commitment expressed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi three years ago during the groundbreaking ceremony. He had underscored the importance of enhancing India-Bangladesh connectivity, to strengthen bilateral ties and create new avenues for trade and transportation. The operationalization of this ICP marks a significant leap forward in realizing that vision.
