ADB Reaffirms Support for BIMSTEC and SAARC

Mr. Thiam Hee Ng, Director, South Asia Regional Cooperation and Operations Coordination Division, Asian Development Bank (ADB), visited the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Secretariat on 14 March 2022 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He met with Mr. Tenzin Lekphell, Secretary General of BIMSTEC, to discuss a range of issues related to the broadening of ADB-BIMSTEC partnership, including advancing and strengthening regional cooperation in the BIMSTEC region.

On 18 March 2022, Mr. Ng visited the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Secretariat in Kathmandu, Nepal. He held discussions with Mr. Esala Ruwan Weerakoon, Secretary General of SAARC, and Directors, to review the implementation status of the activities under the MoU between ADB and SAARC, signed on 12 April 2004. The MoU supports and promotes regional cooperation and development. The meeting discussed ADB’s continuing support for the Informal Meetings of the SAARC Finance Ministers on the sidelines of the ADB Annual Meeting and other activities in the field of regional economic integration, trade facilitation, transport connectivity, energy, climate change, and Sustainable Development Goals. Mr. Ng reaffirmed ADB’s support to the SAARC Secretariat.
