5 February 2022

The Governments of India and Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build a bridge over Mahakali River with grant assistance from the Government of India. The planned 110-meter bridge will connect Dharchula (Uttarakhand, India) with Darchula (Sudurpaschim, Nepal).

Mr. Renu Kumar, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport of the Government of Nepal, stressed that this project will boost India–Nepal bilateral relations and people-to-people linkages.

Mr. Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Ambassador of India to Nepal, underscored that the project, once completed, would help bring prosperity to the bridge’s surrounding areas.

The Cabinet of the Government of India approved the signing of the MoU to build the bridge in January 2022. The project is set to be completed within three years.
