Nepal Launches Customs Duty e-Payment System

28 January 2022

Nepal’s Ministry of Finance launched the e-payment system for customs duty on the 70th International Customs Day. Mr. Janardan Sharma, Minister for Finance of the Government of Nepal headed the launch.

The system enables traders to pay their customs duty online. According to Mr. Sharma, this ‘new age’ in Nepal Customs will facilitate the collection of revenues. It will function as an important tool for trade facilitation and save time for service-recipients and customs employees. It will also help improve employees’ performance.

Discussing oncoming initiatives for customs, Mr. Sharma shared that vehicle scanners would be used at customs checkpoints soon. He also underscored the need to manage international standard quarantines and laboratories at customs points, which are necessary for the private sector.

Mr. Madhu Kumar Marasini, Finance Secretary of the Government of Nepal, noted the importance of a skilled workforce, constant practice and training to operate the technology for customs offices.
