Small Hydropower Plant in Nepal Rehabilitated with India's Assistance

5 May 2021

The small hydropower plant at Chandannath Municipality in Nepal’s Jumla District was rehabilitated with financial assistance from the Government of India. On 5 May, the plant was virtually inaugurated by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Nepal, the District Coordination Committee of Jumla, and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). The grant 'Nepal-Bharat Development Cooperation' provided financing of NRs 26.39 million for the construction of a reservoir tank and rehabilitation of the small hydropower plant.

Approximately 20,000 people in the Chandannath Municipality in Jumla District stand to benefit as the hydropower plant will help improve the population's quality of life with the creation of jobs, increase the local economy, and contribute to the enhancement of the region, stated the press release.

The small hydropower plant was built in 1983 by NEA with power production capacity of 200 kilowatt. The Power Plant was damaged due to a natural calamity.
