Eighth Meeting of Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism Held

The Governments of India and Nepal held the Eighth Meeting of the Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism on 17 August 2020. The virtual meeting conducted a comprehensive review of the projects being implemented under bilateral cooperation. Mr. Shanker Das Bairagi, Foreign Secretary of the Government of Nepal, and Mr. Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Ambassador of India to Nepal, co-chaired the meeting.

Meeting outcomes:

  • Discussions were held on the status of implementation of ongoing projects under Nepal-India bilateral cooperation, including cross-border railways, hydropower projects such as the Arun-III hydropower project and the Pancheshwar multipurpose project, power and transmission lines, petroleum product pipelines, integrated check posts, terai roads, and High Impact Community Development Projects, among others.
  • Both delegations underlined the need to expeditiously implement the bilateral projects. They agreed to undertake necessary measures to address problems and obstacles encountered in the course of implementation in a timely manner.

The Seventh Meeting of the Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism was held in July 2019. The Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism was set up following the State Visit to India by the Prime Minister of Nepal in September 2016 to oversee the implementation of bilateral projects and take necessary steps for their timely completion.
