India and Myanmar can expand trade relations to include areas such as pharmacy, healthcare, transport, food processing, steel, renewable energy, communication, education, among others, to help the revival of both countries post-COVID-19, suggested Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Ambassador, Embassy of India in Myanmar, at an interactive webinar on “India-Myanmar Business Promotion, Challenges and Opportunities Post COVID-19,” along with his counterpart Mr. Moe Kyaw Aung, Ambassador, Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in India. Mr. Kumar noted that Myanmar is a land bridge between India and countries of Southeast Asia. Hence, it is an important centre of exchange of trade and business for India. He underscored the need to continue maintaining high-level exchanges between India and Myanmar.

Mr. Moe Kyaw Aung likewise affirmed India’s importance to Myanmar, with their trade relations in many aspects, including energy, infrastructure, health, transport, and communication. On the road to recovery, he emphasized that business and trade exchanges between Myanmar and India could benefit new and private business companies in both countries to help them bounce back and grow.

The interactive webinar was organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It aimed to understand bilateral challenges between the two countries, and forge a way forward as both countries strive to overcome the pandemic. Representatives from the private sector of India and Myanmar were also present to share their views.
