Kathmandu-Siliguri Bus Service Launched

26 August 2019

A bus service between Kathmandu, Nepal and Siliguri, West Bengal, India was inaugurated on 26 August 2019. It will operate on a daily basis, according to a report in the Hindu.

Mr. Raghubir Mahaseth, Minister for Transport Management of the Government of Nepal, and Mr. Manjeev Singh Puri, Indian Ambassador to Nepal, jointly flagged off the bus service.

In his address, Mr. Mahaseth emphasized that the bus service will further strengthen the links between the two nations. He added that it will not only benefit visitors, but will also help to expand trade links.

Ambassador Puri highlighted the importance of the Kathmandu-Siliguri route, as it connects eastern Nepal with Siliguri and Darjeeling in West Bengal. This will further strengthen people-to-people links between the two countries, he said.

This is the 10th bus service between Nepal and India. The Kathmandu-Gorakhpur direct bus service is also eyed in the near future.
