A 46.8-meter bridge over the Omchhu River in Phuentsholing, Bhutan, is now open to motor vehicle traffic. The bridge will ease congestion in Phuentsholing and complement the ongoing SASEC bypass road project, which aims to promote regional connectivity and cross-border trade through investment in road construction and land ports. The bridge opened on 17 April 2019.

The Asian Developed Banks provided 85% (BTN75.12 million, or approx. $1.08 million) of the financing for the prestressed girder bridge project, while the Government of Bhutan funded 15% of the project cost. It is part of the northern bypass road.

The bridge is the second motorable bridge over Omchhu. Trucks and other heavy vehicles will be directed to use the new bridge, to help reduce traffic congestion on the first bridge. Work on an underpass of the northern bypass is ongoing near the first bridge.
