19 January 2026

Mr. Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Bridges Division secretary and Bangladesh Bridge Authority executive director, on 15 January 2026, visited Tangail and Sirajganj districts to inspect construction progress on the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Road Connection Project-2, which is upgrading the Elenga-Hatikumrul-Rangpur highway to four lanes. Among the locations visited was Hatikumrul interchange in Sirajganj.

Mr. Rouf also visited the Jamuna Bridge along with other officials from the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, which is undergoing regular maintenance work.

"The SASEC-2 project is not just a road; it is a key driver of economic prosperity for North Bengal. It is crucial for ensuring uninterrupted connectivity between the region, the capital, and the south-western part of the country. The project must be completed within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining international standards," said Mr. Rouf. He reiterated the government’s commitment to transform Bangladesh’s transport and communication infrastructure, stating that increasing the Jamuna Bridge's capacity and linking it to the Asian Highway network would bolster the national economy.
