Maldives and Sri Lanka Explore Strategic Collaborations to Boost Ties

10 January 2025

Maldives and Sri Lanka are strengthening their economic ties by undertaking a series of strategic collaborations aimed at boosting trade and bilateral relations. Initiatives include the development of the Kuda Fushi Islands port in Maldives and bringing benefits to both countries and promoting medical and wellness services in Sri Lanka to people from Maldives.

The Sri Lankan government has been offered a 50% tax concession for goods transported from Sri Lanka to help boost the development of the Kuda Fushi Islands port in Maldives. The project will establish warehouses and logistics facilities. Plans are also underway to launch a ferry service between the two countries, which would enhance tourism and address logistical challenges in transporting fresh produce.

Sri Lanka aims to attract Maldivian students and retirees seeking medical and wellness services, and will showcase its schools, universities, and healthcare facilities at an education and wellness exhibition planned in May.
