India Turns Over Koshi Corridor Power Transmission Line to Nepal

The Government of India completed and handed over the 220 kilovolt (kV) double circuit Koshi Corridor power transmission line (Inarwa-Basantapur-Baneshwar-Tumlingtar) to the Nepal Electricity Authority on 6 October 2021.
The 106-km Koshi Corridor transmission line, which cost a total of Rs 10.40 billion ($86.8 million), is being built under a line of credit from the Government of India worth $550 million, extended by the EXIM Bank of India. The project is set to facilitate smooth power evacuation from Arun and Tamor river basins with power output estimated around 2000 megawatts.
Ms. Namgya C. Khampa, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Nepal, congratulated the Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd. for the quality of work and timely completion of the transmission line. She thanked the Government of Nepal, Nepal Electricity Authority and the local administration and representatives for their support in its completion. She emphasized India's commitment to boost bilateral cooperation in the power sector, including development of power projects in Nepal, support for construction of transmission lines both within Nepal and cross-border, and trade of electricity with India.
