India's External Affairs Minister Visits Bhutan

Mr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of the Government of India, visited Bhutan from 7-8 June 2019. He called on His Majesty the King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Lotay Tshering. He also met with Mr. Tandi Dorji, Foreign Minister of the Government of Bhutan.

In his meeting with the Foreign Minister, they discussed areas of cooperation between Bhutan and India and exchange of high-level visits. The meeting emphasized development partnership and hydropower.

This is Dr. Jaishankar’s first visit abroad as the External Affairs Minister. The news release from the External Affairs Ministry of the Government of India stresses that this reflects the importance India attaches to its bilateral relationship with Bhutan as a close friend and neighbor.
