Workshop on Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) Rail-Based Cargo Movement Study

A workshop on the Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) rail-based cargo movement study was held on 29 April 2025 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The workshop, organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), discussed with officials of BBIN countries the findings and recommendations of the study. The study identifies infrastructure, regulatory, and policy challenges needed to shift from road to rail. The shift is expected to save time and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The workshop was chaired by Mr. Keshab Kumar Sharma, secretary, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MoPIT), Government of Nepal, and co-chaired by Mr. Thiam Hee Ng, regional head, Regional Cooperation and Integration, ADB.

Railways, transport, customs, and foreign affairs officials from the BBIN countries were in attendance and provided inputs and suggestions.
